Support Beekeeping and Environmental Conservation in Schools (BESS):

Bees play a crucial role in pollinating crops enhancing biodiversity and improving health ecosystem. Unfortunately, beekeeping and environmental education is often limited in schools, particularly in young people who can appreciate the crucial role of bees in environmental conservation and livelihood. In an effort to build student’s skills in beekeeping and environmental conservation so as to become self-reliant entrepreneurs and promote environmental conservation practices, learning sessions will be organised to highlight biodiversity critical importance and pollinator’s role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem and will emphasise the connection between beekeeping and the broader environment conservation efforts that will stimulate students’ attitude towards bee keeping with integration to environment conservation. The BESS program will provide Beekeeping and environmental education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical action. Through environmental education curriculum development, 300 teachers will be trained, the program will educate 20,000 students on sustainable practices and empower them to lead conservation initiatives among beekeeping in their communities. Provide students with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary to become environmentally responsible citizens. Beekeeping and Environmental education in schools will enhance awareness creation about environmental issues, challenges, and opportunities. It helps shape students understand the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the impacts of human activities on the environment and provide the scientific knowledge, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities necessary to address livelihood and environmental problems effectively. This program will farther lay the foundation for a culture of environmental stewardship in the region and with a far reaching and lasting impact on both education and environmental sustainability in Uganda.
